Simple Product
A Simple Product is the standard format of most products online. This is used when your product has a singular form that does not come in any variations.
Step 1: Finding the ``Add Product`` button
From the WordPress dashboard, go to WooCommerce → Products → All Products. This opens the full product list where you can search, filter, or scroll to find the specific product you want to update. At the top of the page, you will see 3 buttons, click on “Add New Product”.
Step 2: Basic Information
After clicking on “Add New Product”, a page will load with a lot of panels that may overwhelm you. Starting from the top of the page, you will see a panel that allows you to enter the product’s name, description, data, short description, images, categories and brand.
Step 3: Product Data
Under the Product Data panel, there will be an option to switch between product type, select Simple Product. From there, under the General Tab on the left side, enter your product’s Regular Price and Sale Price (if applicable). From there, click on the Inventory Tab and enter your Product’s SKU/Barcode if it has one. There is also an option to enter your product’s stock information. If you want to enter a specific number, select the “Stock Management” checkbox. After that, the rest of tabs are optional and only used for specific needs.
Step 4: Saving or Publishing a Product
On the right side of the page, there will be a panel that allows you to save your product as a draft, which means it will be private, or publish it, which means that your product will be seen by everyone on your website/store.
Variable Product
A Variable Product allows you to set different prices for a singular product if that product has multiple different variations such as size/color etc.
Next to the Product Data panel, there will be an dropdown where you can switch between product type, select Variable Product. The First Tab under Variable Product is Inventory, where you can enter your product’s SKU and overall stock if applicable. After that, click on the Attribute’s tab and enter an attribute name (Color/Size etc.). This is used to make the Variations for your product. After, enter the corresponding value to the name you chose (Blue | Green for Color, Small | Medium for Size, etc). Check the “Visible on Product Page” and “Used for Variations” boxes. Select the “Save Attributes” button after you are finished.
If you have a global attribute, select it from the “Add Existing” dropdown menu at the top of the settings. Select the variations/values you’d like to use from that attribute. You can add them all by clicking the “Select All” button below the values box or you can select specific ones you want to use by clicking on the “Select Values” box and selecting them one by one.
Step 4: Variations
After saving your attributes, click on the Variations tab. At the top there will be 2 buttons, “Generate Variations” and “Add Manually”. Select “Generate Variations to automatically add them. Clicking on one of the Variations will open a panel that allows you to input a variation specific SKU, image and price. To input a variation specific stock, click on the “Manage Stock” checkbox and a new menu option will appear called “Stock Quantity”. There is a “Bulk Actions” dropdown at the top if you need to enter information for all product variations. After all of the basic information is entered, click on the “Save Changes” button at the bottom.
